Our Story

A friend introduced us at Vinnu's party. Even with many people at the party, we managed to make special impressions on one another and exchanged Instagrams. We started talking and discovered we had much in common. On our first date, we cooked at home. Nitin made chutney while Vinnu made dosas. We took a long walk with Lalli, and Nitin carried her back when she was too tired.

Our first trip together was to New York during spring break. While we were hoping for a nice change of pace from Texas's hot weather, we got the complete opposite and found ourselves in the middle of a blizzard. Yet we persevered, donning multiple layers to explore the city. We enjoyed a cruise around Manhattan, the Empire State Building, and loads of amazing food. We are both avid travelers and love taking weekend getaways whenever we can.

We both love surprising each other with gifts and events. One of the first surprises Vinnu gave Nitin was a skydiving adventure for his birthday. Nitin returned the favor just a few weeks later by throwing Vinnu a surprise 23rd birthday party with all of our friends. We continue to surprise each other, whether it's something small like showing up with out-of-the-blue cookies, or big like surprise adventures or trips.

When Vinnu graduated with her Master's from UT, she landed a job at Google in Sunnyvale, California. Nitin worked for Amazon and was still remote at the time. Having always wanted to live in California himself, Nitin chose to move there as well. Our time in California was short but very eventful and lively. We enjoyed being close to all the wonderful California scenery, regularly enjoying hikes and outdoor activities with our friends. Quick weekend road trips became a routine occurrence, including the one pictured, taken at Pebble Beach.

While local trips quenched our thirst for travel for a while, we were itching for a big trip. That's why, when Vinnu found cheap roundtrip tickets to Japan during cherry blossom season, we did not hesitate. It had always been on both of our wishlists to visit Japan, and it worked out that Nitin's birthday was the perfect time to go and coincidentally see the famous cherry blossoms. We spent a week roaming the cities of Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo, marveling at the Shogun castles, Tokyo street life, and bamboo forests. Our favorite part of the trip was the amazing food we got to try.

While California was an exciting place to live, we both missed our lives back in Texas. Vinnu especially missed being close to her family in Dallas. When Amazon recalled its employees back to Austin, we decided to move back to Texas. We love being close to our family and friends and feel that Austin is home for us. We look forward to settling down here.

As we settled back into Austin, the travel bug called. Having just started a new job, Vinnu did not have time for a big trip but had one city on her list she had always wanted to visit: Chicago. Nitin found flights and hotels, and it was time to take off. We spent a long weekend in Chicago, taking in the sights, enjoying fireworks, and, as usual, great food.

After 2.5 years together, we knew we were serious about each other and ready to take the next step. Vinnu had introduced Nitin to her parents and vice versa earlier, but we all got to spend quality time together starting in November 2022. We took Vinnu's parents around Austin, showing them all the Christmas classics. Nitin also got to meet Vinnu's extended family in Dallas. In January, both of us headed to India, where Vinnu met Nitin's parents in person for the first time and both families got to meet.

Nitin's proposal unfolded like a scene from a movie—a meticulously planned surprise that left Vinnu in awe. Nitin had convinced her they were going on a double date with their friends to watch a movie. Vinnu remained oblivious until Nitin's face suddenly appeared on the screen. She instantly knew something big was happening. Overcome with emotion and surprise, she began to cry as a compilation of photos and videos retelling their 2.5-year relationship unfolded before her.As the movie concluded, Nitin guided her to the front of the theater. Kneeling before her, he proposed while "Will you marry me?" displayed on the screen. He opened a box to reveal a flawless ring he designed. The surprises continued as the screen lit up again, with messages from her family and friends extending their best wishes and congratulations. Outside the theater, our friends awaited to celebrate the occasion. The whole night was unforgettable for both of us and filled with love, happiness, and unexpected delights.
